5 Top Tips for Winter Skin

Do you know why our skin suffers when it’s cold outside?

Cold air has less moisture and this affects our skin. Cold air is further compounded by bitter winds blowing any moisture away from our skin.

Even the warmth of our homes adds to our skin damage during these cold winter days.  What heats our homes also sucks the moisture out of the air so your skin is affected inside and out.

Here are my 5 Top Tips for your skin this December

  • Exfoliate at least once a week.  This helps remove dead skin cells and soften your skin and allows your moisturiser work so much better.
  • Moisturise. It’s key to protecting your skin.  Ideally use an SPF, as this will to protect it from the biting wind.  Don’t forget to use a night cream too.  This helps to nourish and repair.
  • Pamper your skin with a moisturising mask.   I know it’s a busy time of year and hard to find the time to lie down and relax whilst it’s doing its magic.  So why not do the ironing or paint your nails.  It’ll still work – just don’t scare the neighbours!
  • Drink plenty!  “Tis the season to be jolly”   …with parties and nights out/in we’re likely to be drinking more alcohol.  This really does dehydrate your skin.  So make sure you drink lots more water to keep your skin hydrated.
  • Have an early night.  Sleep repairs, restores and rebalances the body and your skin, that’s why they call it ‘beauty sleep’. Lack of sleep causes blood vessels to dilate, causing the look of dark circles.  It also causes us more stress and that shows on the face and can make look years  older
